Troubleshooting: The draft image is stuck in 'Waiting for protocol' for a long time

Document ID: KVZ100026/ Created on: Feb 16, 2011/ Updated on: Feb16, 2011

Symptoms

The draft image is stuck in 'Waiting for protocol' when created from a published image.

Cause

In some rare cases, we have encountered this situation for the following reasons:
1. Windows firewall is blocking RDP port 3389.
2. Overloaded host exhibiting slowness creating desktops.

Resolution

Option 1: Look for CPU, Memory and Disk utilizations on your host and ensure that they are not exceeding their capacity level. You can reduce the CPU and Memory load by reducing the number of desktops provisioned on that server.

Option 2: Try restarting the VM to see if this addresses the issue.

Option 3. Go to the 'Windows Firewall settings' on the draft image and add the 'Exception' to allow 'Remote Desktop' connections. If the exception is already available, saving it once again may fix this issue.

Option 4: Delete the draft image and create a new draft image.
