Troubleshooting: Cannot join domain during provisioning

Document ID: KVZ100027 Created on: Feb 16, 2011/ Updated on: Feb21, 2011

Symptoms

Sometimes the VMS are starting properly, sometimes they are not.

Cause

This could happen for the any of the following reasons:
1. If your DNS is down.
2. If you are running out of DHCP leases.
3. If you have more than one DHCP servers in range.

Resolution

1. Check if your DNS is up and running.
2. You can log into the VM console from the host and check if your VMS are given a '169.x.x.x' address from DHCP. This implies that you are running out of DHCP addresses. You might want to consider either extending your DHCP scope and adjusting your DHCP lease time for short release cycles so that you have sufficient addresses available for your desktops.
3. Make sure there is only DHCP server in range.
