Kvz100033 - Desktops are being provisioned with duplicate names

Troubleshooting: Desktops are being provisioned with duplicate names

Document ID: KVZ100033/ Created on: Apr 21, 2011/ Updated on: Apr 21, 2011

Symptoms

After sysprep, all generated desktops have the same computer name.

Cause

This could happen due to a conflict with McAfee EPO and generated images. This is an issue with the Agent GUID registry entry being improperly managed. McAfee has recorded solutions to this issue on their own knowledgebase as well.

Resolution

Before performing SysPrep an Image:

Delete the Agent GUID:

1. Open Registry Editor
2. Click Start | Run type Regedit
3. Navigate to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Network Associates\ePolicy Orchestrator\Agent]
4. Right-Click AgentGUID and select Delete
5. Shut down the OS immediately after performing Step 1 so that the Agent does not check into the ePO server and create a new Agent GUID.
