Troubleshooting: Getting a 'Could not find user' in AD error

Document ID: KVZ100034/ Created on: May 5, 2011/ Updated on: May 5, 2011

Symptoms

Receiving and error message such as 'Could not find user….'

Cause

Assuming that you have configured Kaviza to connect to AD, this error appears to be related to user authentication issues.

Here are some possible reasons:

  1. User may not be belong to the security group in AD
  2. User does not belong to the group registered in Kaviza
  3. The user may need to be logging in using their UPN account (moc.niamod|resu#moc.niamod|resu) to get authenticated.

Resolution

1. To troubleshoot this further, log into AD and find out how the user account has been setup.

Here is a sample screen-shot.

Check the suffix entry that is high-lighted.

- If this matches the DNS Domain entry registered in Kaviza under the 'Configure User Database' setting, the user can login with his/her 'User logon name' in AD e.g 'testupn' to be authenticated by kMGR.
- If this suffix does not match the DNS Domain entry registered in Kaviza, the user needs to login with his/her UPN account name e.g. moc.azivakomed.vs|nputset#moc.azivakomed.vs|nputset to be authenticated by kMGR.

2. Now based on how the user account has been setup in AD, try logging in with and without the UPN name and see if kMGR can find the user.

TIP: A quick way to check this is by registering the user in Kaviza and verifying if it can be registered successfully as an individual user. Here is a sample screen-shot.
